Fauci is the latest in a string of former Trump aides-turned-critics to see their federal protection canceled despite ongoing threats to their lives.

Speaking to reporters in North Carolina on Friday, Trump said he wouldn’t feel any responsibility if harm befell the former government officials. A person familiar with the matter, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive security issues, said that Fauci’s federal security detail was ended on Thursday and that he has since hired private security.

When asked about Fauci and former national security adviser John Bolton, Trump said, “They all made a lot of money. They can hire their own security, too.”

The smart move here would be for the EU/UK to set up an easy method for all the clever, motivated people alienated by the orange hitter’s actions to jump ship

I’m waiting for the inevitable immigration programs that countries are gonna roll out to make it easier/more attractive for educated Americans

Yes, this is “my” country, but fixing the gaping wound it’s got now won’t solve all the other more insidious issues

I am hoping some countries offer asylum for queer people whether or not they are educated.

That would be fantastic. I’ve been thinking a lot about early 1930’s Germany lately, and the Jewish people who saw the writing on the wall there. The people who survived the Holocaust were mostly the ones who got out before it started.

I have queer kids. I’m currently working on moving my family to Canada.

Good luck! Every queer person needs to get out of America if they can. I fear for their safety. My daughter is queer and we just emigrated to the UK because of that.

I’m glad you had the means and ability to get your daughter out and you’re a good parent for prioritizing her safety and well being.

Sorry to be annoying but you emigrate from and immigrate to.

Thanks. It’s heartbreaking, because I love my city and I grew up here. I have a house. I have pets. I have roots. But the whole country is no longer save for my kids.

If I had no children, I’d stay and fight as best I can. But kids change the equation. I have to make sure they survive. And evidence strongly indicates that they’re going to be targets of the new Nazis if we stay.

Hey, I’ve been thinking about this for the last few days… How did you do it? How did you get out so fast? I’ve got a house, I’ve got pets, I’ve got roots here. Pulling up stakes is slow and time-consuming.

And do you have a work visa? Or are you a dual-citizen?

I am a dual citizen, so I am lucky. If you have a parent who was born in the UK, was married to your mother when you were born, and you were born before 1983, you automatically qualify for British citizenship. Unfortunately, my daughter can only stay here for six months unless I get a job paying more than £29,000 a year, so that’s my biggest concern at this point. Our savings won’t last that long though.

OK, that makes sense. Sadly, all of my family have been here for four generations or more. My wife has one slightly easier potential option: If her father claimed Irish citizenship and moved to Ireland, she could piggyback on his Irish citizenship and claim it for herself and our kids, and I’d be able to live there as her husband. But that’s really a non-starter, since her father has health issues that preclude a big move like that.

Right now, we’re focusing on Vancouver, B.C., because my oldest wants to go to college there, and it’s not too far away from where we are now in the Pacific Northwest. If I can get my company to move me, that will make it a lot easier, as they have an office there and my job is 100% remote anyway. But until he finds out if he’s accepted or not, we’re in a frustrating hurry-up-and-wait mode.

Hopefully we can at least move to a safer state when our current lease runs out, moving is just expensive chaos is all, and our lease is for another year and a half :/ Worst case we just hop in the car and leave but that’s less than ideal.

      Or Canada…

But what it reminds me of is Haiti, so many Haitians go study abroad and never come back (not permanently anyway)… The same thing will end up happening in the USA if things keep going the way they are, tons of people with higher education will leave and only those in agreement with the government will stay, making things even worse and the general population will be stuck…

Pro tip if you don’t have special qualifications to help you get out, Australia has long lasting visas if you do work in the agricultural sector, if you add time as a tourist you can stay up to 2.5 years.

It’s another round of bird flu, a new strain, we’re cooking up. It’s why chicken and eggs are so expensive. Millions have been culled. If it makes the jump to humans we’re in for a hell of a ride. Currently 50% mortality rate although that would probably be different for humans.

Germany eased up on naturalizations laws in the last year actually, not sure about other countries in the EU but I’m sure they’re at least making plans. There’s a skilled labor shortage everywhere and they’d love to swipe some Americans.

It’s hard to get the same rate of pay outside the US. If I moved to the UK, AND got promoted from Snr Mgr to Director I’d take a 30% pay cut on average, not to mention what I’d lose on selling my house early, transferring 401k, current liquid assets, car, moving costs for me and family as well as the emotional, social and opportunity cost of moving my wife who’d also have to secure her own package or else be out of work.

      Then there’s the Visa cost.

You’re probably looking at $20-30k USD costs not including opportunity cost and salary decrease.

Until you’re a millionaire money does buy happiness though. And becoming more poor is more expensive than becoming more rich.

Studies have shown money doesn’t buy happiness. It does buy less stress, worry and a peace of mind that you and your family will have a home and healthy food to eat without having to work 3 jobs to get it.

That’s valid, but I think that there’s going to be an increasing number of people who feel unsafe enough to take that hit, from the left/lgbt/scientific/non-caucasian communities. There’s almost inevitably going to be a brain-drain because of this, so we might as well take advantage of it

But on the plus side, there aren’t legions of “lone wolf” nut jobs just aching to murder you in the name of Dear Leader, who Dear Leader is only too happy to encourage while taking away whatever protections you have from them.

So, you know, give and take.

I think many countries won’t though, out of fear of retaliation from the aforementioned orange hitler. That’s a stupid reason for the EU/UK not to take advantage though, because he’s already made clear he will antagonize US allies whenever he pleases and invent an excuse to do it.

Why would you want more Americans in your country? To stupify the populace? Or you want the skilled people to show up and take UK jobs?

As a Canadian to Americans, stay where you are and fix your damn mess. You’re all responsible for allowing it to happen, so deal with it.

a lot of people fled nazi germany before the killing started… at some point it makes sense to save yourself and your family….
it’s not my fault this happened.
btw, this election was stolen, it was mathematically obvious, by comparing polls to results, and trump essentially admitted that musk help him steal pennsylvania by knowing the voting computers so well (i assume his team did).
btw, there’s a large neo-fascist movement growing in canada right now…. go fix it.
