    We’re basically in a proxy war with them so any citizen traveling there from a country backing Ukraine is likely to end up as a hostage on phony or flimsy charges so Russia can use them as a bargaining chip.

    Dude’s in the military and should have known that.

      Of all the sins you can commit in the military, doing something idiotic which then creates pressure on your chain of command to take some dangerous or difficult step to protect you from the consequences of your actions, is like numbers 1, 2, 3, and also probably 5 and 6. I for-real wouldn’t be surprised if the guy gets court-martialled immediately if he does manage to make it out of Putinland at any point.
