Saw this at a friend’s house and thought it looked pretty gnarly. I think it’s a Buddhist statue or Karura/Garuda but I’m am entirely not sure.

Looks Indonesian to me. After a quick search it seems to be indeed Indonesian. Might be Garuda, a mythical bird from Indonesian mythology, originated from Hindu.
I don’t see anything Buddhist about it. Looks Indonesian.
Not an expert in Eastern religions, but it looks more like Shinto or some type of animist religion than Buddhist.
