But repairability is still an open question mark.

continuous heart rate monitoring is locked behind some shit subscription service.
No it’s not, I’m using it right now and I don’t pay for FitBit Premium.
I’m stupid and read it wrong at the time I just needed to setup an account 🤦
How much is the subscription?
Wait… You can’t even do continuous heart rate monitoring and logging without a subscription. YIKES!
They were incorrect.
The scratches during the review period makes me nervous. I walk into walls all the time with my watch so that’s a no go.
I’ll wait and see if it’s more widespread and if there’s any xmas discounts before I potentially pull the trigger
Yeah I’ve got arms like an orangutan. Despite the amount of stuff I’ve smashed my watch 5 pro against it’s still scratch and scuff free.
Honestly. I’ll stick to my 35€ Mii band. I use it since 4 years now. Battery lasts over 2½ weeks. Can still read Whatsapp/sms, control my audio, measure heart rate and wear it inside the pool. 350 bucks just because the screen is bigger? Okay.
you are comparing fitness bands and a smart watch.
this thing just like galaxy ones is running AndroidI guess I have yet to understand why I’d want it to run a full OS. Is it because of contactless pay? I think the new Mii band version can do that too. Maybe the only feature I miss, but then on when I go shopping I have my phone with me anyways.
Smartwatches with their super short life cycles are pointless. The short battery life doesn’t make things any great. A smart band can last much longer on a charge, is cheaper, and accomplishes more of the same things like the latter.
some android ones run for 1-2 weeks
One of the things I love the most about my Pixel watch is being able to listen to Spotify on a run, without lugging my phone with me. Do any of the smart bands have this?
I’m not sure. There may be some which do. I have my smartphone with me most of the time, which makes it a non-issue. But, for your use case, pixel watch is better.
Some do, I had the Garmin 645 music for this.
well you can install applications and stuff.
these are a completely different category of devices, and can even sometimes even operate autonomously without your phone.
(like you can connect your headphones directly to your watch, launch Spotify on it and listen to music while streaming it using a built-in sim slot (not applicable to all of them but you get it, some high end ones can do that), or play music from huge onboard memory)
they usually have full mobile cpus, and unline bands (which usually have something like a 100mhz microcontroller with 5mb of ram and can run for about 2-4 weeks from a single charge) these things usually run for 1-7 days (depending on the model) without heavy use.
I was looking at it. But I’m guessing it still doesn’t even barely compare with the Garmin watches for fitness?
I just switched from Garmin, the heart rate tracking is much better during workouts on the pixel. Enjoying the first few days not needing a chest strap!
Garmin of course had a lot of extra details for running, but I’ve stopped needing that. It depends the type of fitness you’re doing in the end.
I do everything from gym workouts, to pilates, jogging and even Mountaineering / long hikes. My Forerunner 305 needed a chest strap, but, my newer one doesn’t (and I agree, the optical sensor, whilst I was skeptical when they were first released, are actually really awesome).
I guess I’m also a bit iffy about the battery life too. I’ll need gps tracking, strava syncing, and heartrate tracking for 8+ hours per day I guess
Yeah I don’t think the battery will do well for all that, would need to take a small break with a battery recharge possibly.
Which is weird considering Google owns Fitbit
the resell market is very saturated from all the free ones lol, sealed ones are going on swappa for like $200
This is the best summary I could come up with:
Most companies will “personalize” this based on a cockamamie formula that subtracts your age from 220 while giving you no recourse to alter that if it doesn’t line up with your actual fitness levels.
What I don’t love about Safety Signal is it requires you to pay the extra $50 for the LTE model of the Pixel Watch 2 and you must have a Fitbit Premium subscription.
When signs of physical stress are detected, you can choose to receive notifications that prompt you to log your emotions, do a breathing session, or take a walk.
On top of a busy workweek, my grandma died, I closed an emotional chapter in dealing with my mom’s estate, and out of nowhere, I somehow scratched the living bejeezus out of my Pixel Watch 2 review unit (more on that below).
Right after this review first published, Google reached back out to tell me that the scratches appear to be the result of scraping against a hard or uneven surface, and are unlikely to be something related to incidental contact.
[Update: shortly after initial publication, Giovannello emailed to clarify that Google has decided to extend Preferred Care to Pixel Watch 2 in the US and Canada.
