The over arm on the shoulder is an interesting option. I’m guessing that this is more prone to having tension issues as the arms move around.
Could be, I thought it was simply to have the arms free, either for posing or because arms-behind-back was unwanted by either model or photographer.
If only we could have a memory engram with pictures!
