Literally. From a report by the Treasury Department:

Unionization also has spillover effects that extend well beyond union workers. Competition means workers at nonunionized firms see increased wages too. Heightened workplace safety norms can pull up whole industries. Union members improve their communities through heightened civic engagement; they are more likely to vote, donate to charity, and participate in a neighborhood project. And, the higher pay and job security of both union and nonunion middle-class workers can further spill over to their families and communities through more stable housing, more investment in education, and other channels.

Yep. I enjoyed “we will take what they are having” outside the Union for many good years, each year when the Union negotiated a pay or benefit increase.

But in tough years, the unionized workers did much better than we did.

We fixed that though - by joining the Union.

I agree. Seeing this currently at my job. Main location is in a State with strong unionization. My location, far from Corporate, is being hit with wave after wave of petty shit and hostility. Hiring freezes, department hours cut, no overtime w/ heavy controls in place, random check-ins at terrible times, etc. Been sorely tempted to drop a super quiet and anonymous letter to the union supporting employees of this organization, even if this location is outside their jurisdiction. See what happens.

      For giggles.
