It’s crazy how once one authoritarian regime starts getting rowdy, a bunch of others start doing horrible things too.

It’s like they plan to act on their most evil plans in the chaos of everybody else popping off, so that the world’s eyes are left spinning on which atrocity needs to be focused on first, and their particular crimes against humanity get very little individual attention.

I would love to see the results of a survey like:

The media is always saying “risks” lately because they don’t want to be directly accustory of the regime and get attacked for it.

However, and I can only speak from a Christian experience, this is why “works based salvation” is not what is taught by Jesus Himself.

What you speak of with “How many of these laws did you follow enough to get a ticket to heaven?” is Hollywood theology at best, and not at all Biblical.

Numerous times He stresses doing good works in secret, and not to show off to others. (If you get attention for it, that’s your petty little reward, basically.)

A righteous life inspires good works naturally, and the Law makes sure we should never forget that none of us are perfect, therefore we are called to forgive others the way we’d wish to be forgiven.

We are not called to judge others. If you judge others, you’d best be ready to submit to being judged by the same metric. (And will likely be found wanting.)

B) How do you seek justice in the courts when the officers won’t show their faces, won’t identify themselves or the agency they work for, and reports they file don’t name the officers or departments involved?

How would we seek justice against cells of foreign terrorists doing the same thing to people? That’s how.

Courts aside, if the oaths of law enforcement weren’t completely thrown in the can at this point, unidentifiable armed masked goons hopping out of unmarked vans should be a “shoot first” scenario for the coppers and concerned citizens. (Ah right. L.A.)

I know lately it’s just a constant stream of man-made horrors overwhelming our comprehension, but holy crap this is…beyond disgusting.

I think the big problem here is how stupidly huge and deeply rooted into everyday long-term-life the problem is, and brittle, tenuous social ties (lonliness epidemic still a thing!) means wrangling together enough people to agree on what can be done about it becomes a herculean task.

Neighborhood tree on fire? Do something! Cool, we bring water and extinguishers and call the FD, whatever. There’s generally an idea of what needs to be done.

There’s also been no massive campaigns pushing to ban non-firefighter use of fire extinguishers and make people afraid of them, so chances are you and your neighbors might have the tools at hand to deal with the problem.

If you run out to put out a fire by yourself, you’re hoping to be joined by others, and if you don’t have an army of committed hardcore anti-fire people behind you, you’re not gonna get singled out, dragged away, and shipped to a death camp for trying to solve a fire.

It’s a problem that doesn’t require the same kind of strategy. There’s procedures in place. Putting out a fire also doesn’t carry the fear that your anti-fire activities will get you noticed, ratted out, and abused when you discover your neighborhood actually consists of more fire-worshiping pyromaniacs than you thought.

It’s so easy for oustiders to imagine us rootin’ tootin’ ‘Muricans just grabbin’ our Winchester repeatin’ rifles an’ M1 Garands an’ stormin’ the obvious fascist regime that marches the streets in their snappy black leather uniforms, but this is another thing entirely.

This is a systemic infection of hearts and minds. We’re already struggling to make a living so our basics are covered, to know who and where our allies are, and to trust they aren’t just keyboard warriors and will actually have our backs so we don’t just throw our lives away in some random isolated act of virtue signaling.

At the end of the day, we have to live here. And we’re up against people who make it their specialty career to surveil, intimidate, coerce, arrest, subdue, manipulate, and kill. You wanna make the first move?

I hope the victims of ICE start to sue for defamation as well - drain the new bill’s obscene funding with a wave of court-ordered compensation to ICE’s victims.

A Jesus Christ complex would be refreshing. A leader who would deny earthly pleasures, command their followers to love thy neighbor, feed the hungry, uplift the sick and poor, give long sermons about mercy and forgiving your enemies, and would be seen personally breaking bread with the unhoused and lawyers alike?

I appreciate a lot of the harassment campaigns around tracking and interfering with ICE. These should continue and escalate.

This extrajudicial black-bag unmarked-personnel van-kidnapping bullshit should carry unacceptable risk and highly visible negative public optics for those who keep attempting it.

Because I wonder if this one in particular were better publicized, if it would turn some percentage of hardcore single-issue 2A types against the regime, if they put their money where their (very loud) mouths are.

It seems like it wouldn’t work, but I imagine if we can broadcast a lot of “Are you STILL so sure they’re not the bad guys?!” messages with receipts, it could eventually change some minds.

Even if they want to get back to arguing with us over the dinner table when the dust settles, we need everyone we can get.
