Do you have a static IP address? CG-NAT has done a really great job of hindering torrents, since my understanding is that at least one side of the connection needs to have an open port. So, if you don’t, then only the few people who do are able to download from you, which can make it seem like no one wants your stuff.

Tails is a bit overkill, even for this. It’s not just privacy focused, it’s for the same people who need to use TOR (Tails even routes all traffic through TOR by default IIRC, no?), i.e. those who are sharing classified government intel or running large darknet drug markets. Unless OP is that paranoid, they can probably start off with a basic Debian or something, which is already leagues ahead of Windows in terms of privacy.

Sorry, Microsoft might make crappy software, but they aren’t actively trying to invalidate my existence as a person. Absolutely not comparable.

You mean the scientist who, as the article says, “represented cigarette maker R.J. Reynolds in negotiations with the Department of Health and Human Services about cigarette additives, according to a 1984 corporate memo”? Yeah, I’m sure this guy is completely unbiased towards corporate interests.

I mean, it’s about as permanent as you can get within the US’s political system. It’s not really up for “interpretation” like Roe v. Wade, it’s literally just “the State Constitution has changed so this law is now unconstitutional”. If a future judge(s) were to overrule this, it would be blatantly and objectively partisan, which is a much bigger deal with state courts than it is Federal ones
Yeah. It turns out that the “Alpha” and “Omega” wolves are just… The parents of the pack. It’s got nothing to do with the Alpha being macho or assertive or anything like how it’s been portrayed for decades.
The researcher who first published his faulty observations has been trying to correct the public consciousness for years, but it’s really hard to undo something that was taught so widely

Ive never had to download a codec to use VLC, it should come built-in with every codec you may reasonably encounter on commercial DVDs.

I have the same problem with CloudFlare’s 1.1.1.1. Are the two services related? I also remember the same issue going on with archive.is

Ban evasion so you can continue your triad against another user for their completely innocuous post definitely justifies a permanent ban from that single community.
I agree with that other user, go touch grass. You can use that time to do a lot more for animal rights than arguing with random Lemmy users ever will.

God damn, that looks terrible. It’s not just a treadmill, it’s basically a stairlift that prisoners and slaves were forced to use. And anyone who’s used a stairlift knows how brutal of a workout they are.

I mean, that was Getty Image’s whole case against Google’s “view image” button. And Getty won that legal battle, so clearly they have some legal ground to stand on, even though most people would think it’s bullshit.

May I suggest looking on sites like eBay for a second-hand pair of those pants? I’ve had surprisingly good luck finding replacement clothes that are barely worn, so it might be worth looking, and maybe setting up an alert so it will email you if a new listing is posted for those pants.

Uhhh… he literally moderated the r/SwitchPirates subreddit and had ties to multiple pirate shops that distributed the pirated games.
I don’t support Nintendo’s lawsuits, but people are making it sound like they’re going after some random Joe who just mentioned pirating games in a comment or two. Unless you’re moderating one of the biggest Nintendo pirating communities or working to distribute pirated games, AND are really bad with op-sec, you’re probably fine.
Funny enough, Usenet is still around too, it’s used as an alternative to BitTorrent for sharing pirated stuff.
