They gave plenty of statements of caution before the election, and most of the country simply didn’t care. So now we reap what we have sown. We did this to ourselves.

      Who’s “we”?

      Who’s “we” motherfucker?

You best understand that I’m not part of your fucking “we”. I did not do this to myself, nor did I do this to any of my friends. We did what we knew how. We most certainly did not do this to ourselves, and personally I’m not going to just shrug and sigh and lay down and take it.

America’s chosen government doesn’t see me or many of my friends as human because we’re trans and you’re saying “we” must reap what “we” have sown, as if we are somehow responsible for our own persecution. That’s victim blaming. That’s what spineless people say when they have no real skin in the game. That’s what people say when they’re too scared to speak up. That’s coward shit.

Well, I refuse to take responsibility for this trash. I refuse to take responsibility for the abuse I and my friends will likely be subjected to in the coming years. Nor do I have the option to just lay down and take it.

      Fuck your “we”.

“We” here clearly refers to the country as a whole, which you know. So why are you directing this rage at someone who’s probably on your side, even agrees with you, and was backed into a grammatical corner due to english’s lack of nuanced collective nouns? Do you seriously think alienating some of our few allies with aggressively performative rage is going to keep your friends safe?

We all feel like this, we’re all scared for what this fascist fuck might do to us & ours, so don’t make it harder for everyone by taking your anger out on people who are just venting their frustration and worry to the universe.

Uh huh. I look forward to seeing your daily activity on Lemmy without interruption for the next 4 years instead of in the News where it would actually matter.

I think you took my post in a spirit other than which it was intended, and then just sprinted away with it.

We, in the terms of my post, is Americans. We voted for Donald Trump, whether it was casting a ballot for him directly, voting 3rd party, or just failing to show up. 75 million people voted for Harris, but that wasn’t enough. 77.3 million voted for Trump, and around 90 million people who could have voted simply did not vote at all. So basically, of the eligible voting population, only around 31% of us voted for Harris. 69% of us either couldn’t be fucked to vote at all, or voted for that fat orange piece of shit.

So… we deserve what we voted for.

Note that in the above, the “we” includes you, but does not blame you. It sounds like you did what you could to prevent it, but it simply wasn’t enough. Not enough people cared. Now we all have to suffer.

More like almost 70% of us did it to everyone else. 77.3 million people voted for Trump, and about 90 million people just straight up didn’t vote. They’re to blame as well.

Yeah I can’t even blame them. The right control everything already, including what the vast majority of Americans see.

Let’s just pretend if Democrats tried to do something similar to Jan 6. My god you would hear about it every day, 24/7 across all social media platforms, fox news, etc. The megaphone of the right is unmatched. There would be military tribunals Republicans would declare literal war on the traitorous scum.

Ultimately, at this point it boils down to a choice: either abandon the principles of democracy and cling to power, or transfer power peacefully to the next government. Biden and Harris ain’t gonna do option 1, nor should they. We should have to face the consequences of our idiotic actions. So, since they’re going to peacefully transfer power, at this point, it’s all about preserving whatever shreds of their own legacy they’ve got left. And to whinge and moan at this point would be beneath their dignity.

They lost. They’re adults. They’re bummed about it, but they’re going to keep a stiff upper lip and not degrade themselves.
