What does them being a non-American have to do with anything?
One can not value others opinions of them and not want to he disrespected at the same time. No contradiction.
Why would anybody respect you if you don’t value their opinions? Honest question. Would you really want to be friends with someone like that?
Why would you respect someone, and does that respect require them to care how you feel?
Respect has nothing to do with friendship and you can hate someone and respect them at the same time. In the adult world I suppose.
