People (e.g. mainstream press) are responding to these events as if Trump were actually trying to accomplish something useful for the US - as if he were well-intentioned but incompetent.
But (1) Trump is a compulsive liar, so his talk about “Make America Great” should be treated with suspicion, and (2) Trump is owned by foreign interests (Russia, China, Saudi Arabia) who will benefit from the US having weakened international relationships.
From this point of view, it makes sense that Trump is alienating our allies.
Trump is a fool who is being used by hostile powers to sabotage the USA and its allies. But he’s also a bitter, vindictive, petty little man who wants to sabotage his country anyway.
To add to this, the FBI has been trying to prove his connections to Russian crime organizations forever. I wanna say since the 70s. Russian criminals have major stakes in Trump Towers - including actual real estate - and he’s been “gifted” everything from private planes to yachts by them. The FBI has never been able to get anything to stick, however.
Decades into the future, it will come to be known that Putin has a video of trump fucking an obviously underaged blonde girl whom he audibly calls “Ivanka”.
But when you add Putin into the mix then it all makes sense.

Speaking for the Russia part, he owed 400 million to Deutsche Bank (https://www.businessinsider.com/trumps-secret-ugly-breakup-with-deutsche-bank-revealed-2022-10) which was his biggest single lender and which just happens to be the same bank which also funneled billions of Russian dark money offshore (https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2016/08/29/deutsche-banks-10-billion-scandal). Just a coincidence no doubt.
