I have seen a lot of tesla vandalism online the last few days and I’m kind of on the fence about it.

I’ve seen several examples locally here in BC, Canada.

I think totally warranted at newly purchased teslas going forward. Also it serves as a deterrent for potential future buyers.

But vandalizing a car that is a few years old I think is lame. Those driversare already being punished enough by driving something around that’s worth less than scrap.

Many of us drive a lot. Half-decent cars that don’t need regular repairs are going to run at least 30k, sometimes more. I really don’t understand the 70k trucks, but I may just not have the perspective. I don’t know what you consider too much money on a car, but I have two kids and need something safe for local travel and visiting family hundreds of miles away.

Edit: If there was better public transportation, I would take advantage of it. We were supposed to have high speed travel in Florida–the people voted for it. The Republicans stalled it because there wasn’t a funding portion to the law and refused to fund it.

Would you be ok with me pissing on everything you own? Sounds like the time and money you spent on stuff is of no consequence to you.

They are right on those two points, though: Americans are way too much into property/money/materialism, and many put way too much money into their cars.

That doesn’t mean it’s OK to vandalize people’s cars (especially older models), and I DO care about stuff I’ve worked for. But it’s still true.

And yes it’s not exclusive to Americans. But we’re pretty damn bad about it. We are the land of the $80,000 commuter and grocery getter truck that uses twice as much gasoline as a normal car.
