A new COVID vaccine is due out next month, but health experts and analysts say it is likely to be coolly received even as hospitalizations from "Eris", a variant of the Omicron form of the coronavirus, rise around the country.
Like all the vaccines do far, they will likely reduce your risk of catching it and reduce your symptoms and risk of hospitalisation or death. None have eliminated the chance to catch it or get symptoms.
That’s not to say they don’t work. That’s how they work. They make your immune system better at dealing with them. Each new variant and time increases your risk again.
If it’s very effective for this strain, it might be like 90% effective at not getting it. But there are more strains that will have less effect. As others are saying, symptoms should be more mild if you do get it.
