For a while, I’ve been converting videos into WEBP files that can offer little thumbnails and are simple to open in anything whether from a web browser, web browser-based app like Voyager, or something more native like Apollo for Lemmy.
The sucky part is that they tend to be bigger than videos, have no audio support, and show massive compression artifacts for reasonable file sizes without dropping resolution. (It’s also extra work to run my local conversion script.)
Any preference on what people want to see? Is it worth the trouble or is just posting the video to Catbox more than enough?
EDIT: Examples in case anyone doesn’t know the difference:
- Video Post for Taking a Break w/ Na’el [Xenoblade] (BlobCG) (KaliethVA)
- WEBP Post for Shibari and Sex (yamada taro)
If the WebP example is supposed to be animated, then WebP doesn’t work for the app I use (Eternity)
That’s unfortunate, but thanks for letting me know. Must mean that this entire comm is probably not animated for you… :(
Not while scrolling, no, but some play by pressing on it
