Apple works hard to make sure they don’t seem cheap. Their content has been top notch. But it can be really easy for 3D to make a movie worse. I think you’re right to be nervous.

It makes sense that this could be really cool. But when it’s rendered for 2D screens it still needs to look great and not feel gimmicky.
Oh well let’s hope I’m wrong
