I agree it isn’t right that retail workers are at risk of abuse, but when I worked for Sainsbury’s they cut the amount of security guards so there was only one there 50% of the time, so I felt less safe as a direct result. They also laughed when a guy sexually assaulted me, who then went on to seriously sexually assault my sister. Fuck retail, fuck retail management and fuck people like this Dame who try to put the blame on anyone but themselves.
As a student I had a retail job, the branch I worked at had the best loss prevention record in the whole company - because they had 2 very dedicated security guards. The big brains at company headquarters then decided because we had such a great record, we didn’t need 2 guards, so they made one redundant and cut the other’s hours. Shoplifting incidents skyrocketed.
