Hey everyone, since total cumulative donations for the last 3 months were less than $200 (~ $60/month), even though PornLemmy has an average of 250k uniques per month with peaks of 300k+, I have dropped plans for improvements (new frontend + backend tweaking) and will only spend $60/month worth of time and resources on PL. I won’t put ads or gather personal data for profit, but I am open to selling to someone who will. Imagining zero growth, I’m targeting an ARPU of $0.005 amortized over one year, BTC. You may not want to make money of your users, that’s admirable, and honestly a nice thing to see. Presumably, someone who is interested in running this instance ALSO doesn’t want to turn their users into a cash cow, your post suggests that’s the only value to be had here, and is kind of forcing that as the only option.
Presumably someone might be willing to take on the costs of running this out of good will. But that good will is squandered if they must first pay a market rate which assumes the users worth is measured only in their monetization ability. And not by the community, or as a hobby.
This is the bad taste I was talking about. I’m not attacking your resources, effort…etc here. I’m trying to start a dialog.
