The financial cost is of no importance to sensible people - we know that the flooding of coastal cities, being unable to grow food, millions of climate refugees, etc. outweighs any short-term cost of slowing the climate crisis. On the other hand, the financial cost is the only thing of import to fossil fuel companies, because they are capitalists in a capitalist system - short-term profit is their priority every time.
The denier line has moved on from “it’s not human caused” to “it’s too late/expensive to do anything about it anyway”, aiming for pessimism and doomerism to let them continue business as usual.
