Lil’ cross-post from Lemmy.ca.

With women’s fashion, it’s an easy one with pockets and for some probably less sheer/thin or tight-fitting clothing depending on their preferences, but for men…?

What would you like to see done differently in men’s fashion?

Not really, it says those are people you should take seriously, which, depending on context, is true.

No. It says these people know which symbols to attach to themselves to show that they want to be taken seriously and know which symbols to put on for that. Nothing more.

The only thing you can read into a suit is a knowledge and acceptance of cultural norms. Which has absolutely nothing to do with seriousness.

No? The person I replied to listed business people and lawyers, generally people who wear suits to conduct their business. If they’re wearing a suit, I don’t assume they’re performing surgery.

No, that was never stated, you either replied to the wrong comment or made it up.

Anyway, your argument is still pretty much bullshit, because you’re conflating a necessity and a cultural practice.

A surgeon doesn’t wear scrubs or gloves because their super stylish, but because they don’t want to kill you. That’s what grown ups call a necessity.

A lawyer’s uniform has no practical value. It’s simply a cultural practice. Business people don’t become bad at businessing just because they wear t-shirts, it’s just a cultural practice that they wear suits.
