Thank you for sharing this article! This prevented me from working on projects and software. Not only FOSS projects should refrain from using Discord. Community-driven projects like Skywind are barring themselves from helping hands, they desperately need, by using proprietary, privacy-threatening software as their way of communication.

I wanted to use Cosmos server but they only support Reddit, Discord and GitHub. I asked them to create a community on a platform that respects it’s users. They declined, and their users ass-blasted me for “demanding” that they choose a different service. I can’t use a project that has zero support options that don’t exploit their users. Makes no sense to me.

You’re asking them to set up and maintain another platform for you to … Checks notes… use their FOSS project? Not contribute to development, just…use? That does not seem worth their time. Certainly sounds demanding to step into a project and tell them to do things differently otherwise you won’t honour them with your presence

I think it’s safe to assume they created a FOSS project, as well as all of the associated social platforms, for people to use. I don’t think it’s unrealistic to request that they make a single platform available that doesn’t exploit their users for profit.

          Certainly sounds demanding

That’s because you have a fundamental misconception regarding the difference between asking a question and making a demand. Here’s a hint: one has a “question mark”.
