Not a huge fan either, but can’t really see a good reason to ban them. I’d also rather not see more simple “Hello there” posts, but don’t wanna deal with a mutiny on my hands if I start deleting Kenobi.

That said, if it gets out of hand, we’ll probably do something about it.

It’s the autoplay that’s annoying, if they only played when selected, it would be perfectly fine.

Sure I would, except they are currently overburdened from what I understand.

So currently we must rely on self discipline, or simply block users who make posts that have thumbnails with animated gifs.

Animated avatar/thumbnal - instablock for sure.

I do expect some apps to have this functionality tho. Especially those that are ports of Reddit apps and thus farther along in development.

Are GIFs not allowed on certain communities? Do certain communities alter the thread when federating?

Yes they are allowed, but they shouldn’t be IMO. But I figure I’ll just block users who make posts with animated thumbnails, until we can disable it.

Animated Gif, they are not bad by themselves, but they are noisy if they play automatically on your front page, if they waited until you expanded them, it would be perfectly fine.

But the autoplay is distracting and annoying.
