Getting people to believe things can be very profitable, and American companies spend many billions of dollars getting Americans to believe that a bigger vehicle is a necessity with a wide ranging campaign that includes both traditional ads and product placement in music and movies. The same would happen anywhere else where a sufficient opportunity to profit exists.
Americans are just by and large awful people. So what if it kills more people and is awful for the environment, it makes me feel safer.
