I increasingly feel like religious indoctrination in childhood creates a kind of mental illness or disability by disrupting the development of critical thinking skills.

This is not accidental. Many religious scholars have talked about the need to “instruct” children when they’re very young - by the age of three or four.

I experienced this first hand and it was stunting, if not traumatic. I came to peace with myself for being atheist only in my 20s.

I have trauma from this, but from the other end. So many stunted people trying to force insanity on me as if it were logic. For the longest time I thought I was crazy or broken for not being able to make some connection they were. Turns out, there’s no connections. Just gut feeling.

My wife only got it a little firsthand because her family is evangelical, but her mother is one of the kindest, most accepting, most tolerant people I’ve ever met. Despite that, and despite being an atheist since she was a teenager, she still has dreams about going to hell in her mid-40s.

Because it’s normalized gaslighting. If a kid isn’t encouraged to think critically and is told to ignore their own perception of the world, they learn to seek truth externally from themselves.

Teaching children religion is child abuse. It happened to me and it was abuse. My parents didn’t realize it and I forgive them because they were abused by it too but we need to start calling it what it is.

The Scathing Atheist podcast has been reading through the new testament lately with Jesus played as a sassy gay man.

According to Genesis, man was made in god’s image. Archeologists have determined that the oldest humans were black. It would be more accurate for sure.

Judaism doesn’t require belief in God to enter heaven, just being a good moral person (so that rules out almost all of Isn’trael). No one’s been able to explain to me why the New Testament would’ve/could’ve changed that.

Reciting scripture from the NKJ Bible to me and I’ll respond back in scripture from the Catholic Bible. Oh what? There’s two more books in the Catholic Bible? But what about St Thomas? He was literally right there next to hayzues…why wasn’t his gospel included? The council of Nicea you say …

Almost seems like the curated collection we call Bible has had numerous politically motivated omissions and… Innumeral suspicious translations. Which is all quite silly, because we can still read the original works in Greek and Hebrew. We can directly translate them ourselves, if we want to be sure our compact with God is pure and holy.

In the days when Rome fed believers to lions, Christians were the only ones to walk into plague stricken neighborhoods and tend to the sick. Everyone abandoned the infirm as matter of course, except the Christians, who grew exponentially because they were the only ones who cared about the poor. They also gave all their shit away like the aesthetics. Material possessions mean nothing in the halls of the Lord. Early Christians were the antithesis of capitalism and heirarchy. Every power structure to ever touch what Jesus taught has usurped and destroyed his instructions to heaven.

If you’re a believer, you’d do best to stop believing power structures and read the works for yourself. Gambling eternity on the largest “trust me bro” in history is…idk. you’d deserve what you got then I guess. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

How do paint a woman as transexual? Why would a being without what we can recognize as a physical body even need reassignment surgery?

Or even Jesus as gay? Is he gonna be gulpin down glizzys? Because Rule 34 assures us that already exists.

I think you’re a little lost in the weeds, bruv.

If anything, republicans are perfectly represented by Jeezuz Jeezy if you will because he is a total asshole true and thru. Yeah, that’s right, Jesus Christ is an asshole. Last night for example a bunch of people died in Gaza and Ukraine, innocent, hungry people. And guess what? putin is still alive, Mr Yahoo is still alive. They probably had some of the best tasting grapes by licking them off virgins bodies yesterday while they were freely murdering. Where’s Jesus? Oh! It’s s mystery! Oh he’s using putin for a good cause. Bullshit! The Christian Church is pure bullshit.
