Summary

Donald Trump suggested Canada could become the U.S.’s “51st state,” claiming it would benefit Canadians through lower taxes and military protection.

The remark follows tensions over Trump’s proposed 25% tariffs on Canadian imports, which shocked Canadian leaders, including Ontario Premier Doug Ford, who likened it to betrayal.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau dismissed the annexation talk as unserious but unveiled a $1 billion border security plan to address U.S. concerns.

The escalating rhetoric, including insults from Trump ally Elon Musk, highlights strained Canada-U.S. relations ahead of Trump’s second term.

I mean, is it too late for us to rethink that whole independence thing? Well, considering the state of UK politics, I don’t know if we want to join up with them. They’re just as bad as we are.

How about Ireland? Can we just surrender to Ireland and let them annex us? I imagine, considering their history, that they would be pretty benevolent as far as colonial masters go.

We could even issue a Declaration of Dependence

    “We are now your problem.”

Man, I’ve been to all these places, one in particular for years at a time. They’re nice, but everyone has to quit listening to the media and go outside. The states are straight up better off in all measures than Canada, Ireland, the UK, France, everywhere. All you gotta do is man up, figure out how to pay for health insurance yourselves, and take advantage of all the opportunity around you the other countries lack, and the much lighter tax bills. Or, yknow, just sit on here or reddit all day and bitch.

Not really. Sure, they’re better - as long as things in your life go perfectly well. But you have to have a net worth of $10 million+ before you’re immune to bankruptcy in the US healthcare system.

Also, you are drunk and don’t know what site you’re on.
