Hello guys, I’m curious about this meme, is there some literature where I can find someguides to test this? Thanks.

You wouldn’t pay for 4k Netflix and then download a Chromebook recovery image in order to extract the aarch64 widevine com blobs and then patch in support for 16k pages and then apply miscellaneous glibc compat workarounds and then spoof your useragent, and install a browser extension to unlock HD resolutions, to legally watch media in only 1080p

In concept. Every single time I’ve tried to use it I’ve had issues. The movies stop constantly, files become unreachable for some indiscernible reason preventing me from continuing from the same source, the app bugs out like crazy, some things aren’t all that easy to find, the quality isn’t always great or there’s weird stuff like embedded subtitles or watermarks.

I genuinely thought it was just me but yeah this has always been the case for me. Neat concept but I think that living in the middle of nowhere with crappy internet makes it impossible to use for me.

You’ll likely also need to pay for a Debrid service. It’s basically a download caching server, so if one user downloads a file, it’s available to everyone.

With Stremio, that means that popular media will already have a zillion options pre-cached. If you want more niche stuff, then you can do the extra step to get your Debrid service to download it for you (assuming there’s a public teacher that has it with seeders.)

It should also work for those download/file sharing sites, but I haven’t bothered to figure it out yet.

Eh, it’s different. I like that I can choose individual streams for different quality. I watch at 720p on my old TV with crappy WiFi, or 4K on my desktop. Anything mainstream enough to be on a streaming platform will already be loaded, it’s just obscure stuff you might need to add yourself, which you’d never get on Netflix anyway.

We usually watch shows in Stremio even if they’re on Netflix.

Yeah, fair. The setup is a bit technical for sure. You can set it up to default to different settings, though, so it would probably work well if the defaults are set correctly.

Like, my crappy old laptop can only handle H264s, not H265, but you can select video codec as a default. At least, I’m pretty sure you can.

My kids can manage it, and they’re only 6 & 8.

You’ll need to install the torrentio add-on.

You should use a VPN, but it will work without one.

You can use a debrid provider and remove the other stremio addons you don’t use. I’ve never bothered, and to be honest I don’t even really understand what debrid is.

Marginally maybe? Installing an add-on in torrentio doesn’t take more than a second, but it isn’t a process most people are already familiar with, like entering credit card details to open an account.

Also I don’t think OP made the meme, I think they’re just wanting to know more (as am I). Like, what’s the drama? Why’d someone make the meme? It implies Netflix only lets you watch things in 1080p on a PC if you apply a bunch of workarounds (presumably to make the site think you’re a TV or something).

They also limit it on other platforms, if you use anything other than Internet Explorer Edge. Since Microsofts browser is the only one to include the Silverlight DRM plugin.

It’s a blog post on how to get Netflix and Spotify to work on Asahi Linux, the project to run Linux on new “M” chipsets 64bits Arm apple computers. Their solution (and widevine hack) is now integrated in the Fedora Linux Asahi Remix project’ default distro. You still have to do the user agent mod tho.

It all works quite smoothly ; the install process is a breeze of a single .sh script to run directly from macos. The amount of software available for Arm64 is surprising, tho gamers will be disappointed there’s no Vulkan / Steam available yet.

That “Default” install is really just Fedora, shipped with KDE for it’s superior handling of fractional scaling. There’s the dnf package manager, flatpaks, the works.

I’m 80~90% of the time on the Asahi side of things on my device. Showstoppers today are sleep battery drain (50% a day) and pure “ooomph” - performance of an M2Pro chip is more akin to a 12th gen i7 than the same chip under macos. Rendering in kdenlive or blender is noticeably slower on Asahi. But it’s a huge reverse-engineering undertaking, and it will be getting better.

Images of text, and the people that post them, have their own circle of hell waiting for them.

In this case the image is a riff on a video, so I’ll let it slide, but I don’t know why OP didn’t just submit the source post instead of just this image from it.

I can’t believe people even bother with 1080P let alone 4K. Is there unlimtied bandwidth where you all live?

In my part of the world anything above 480p is just asking for a bad time, with no actual improvement on your ability to enjoy the story.

Respectfully, I’d consider large parts of Canada to be undeveloped. I’m not trying to throw shade or anything, there’s just a lot of Canada to develop.

The same is true to a lesser degree in the US and most other very large nations.

I’m referring to two bits of copper wire in a sleeve of (probably rubber) insulation, commonly used for landlines back in the day. If you don’t call it that, maybe it’s a regional thing.

Oh, and there’s 8 billion people on this planet. They all live in the “real world”. Your experiences are not somehow more valid because you happen to live on one particular patch of dirt.

It depends what you are watching it on I suppose. If you’re streaming content on a phone, then 480p is probably acceptable to most people. But if your connection can support a higher resolution without buffering issues, then why wouldn’t you? Especially if you’re watching something on a TV or large monitor, it’ll look terrible in 480p.

Edit: I’m assuming when I said “why wouldn’t you?” that you have unlimited data. Obviously if you have a data cap then that’s a different story.

Don’t know why you think you know where I live. And you seem to have completely missed the disclaimer where I said “Obviously if you have a data cap then that’s a different story.”

And just FYI, for areas with a decent internet network, whether in the city or not, your data use doesn’t impact your neighbors’ bandwidth in any meaningful way, assuming your ISP isn’t massively over-subscribed. I mean all ISPs are oversubscribed to some extent, but then most people aren’t download 24/7, so they typically size the ‘pipe’ to accommodate peak combined usage.

I’m perfectly well aware that if your local ISP’s network is dogshit then this might be more of an issue. That’s why they typically have data caps in those areas to discourage bandwidth usage. If you don’t have a bandwidth cap then it’s really the responsibility of your ISP to provide enough bandwidth for everyone to enjoy. You want to go around ranting at people for watching HD movies, go right ahead, see what happens. Try ranting at your ISP - it might be more effective.

No data cap, and its not even the download speed, though of course that sucks too unless you live in a city, even just wi-fi streaming inside home is shitty with 1080P.
