Exec 1: “What did people like about Lord of the Rings? Can we capitalize on it?”

Exec 2: “Well, people seemed to really like meming this Gollum character, so that was probably the big draw and the reason everyone liked the films”

Exec 1: “PERFECT! We’ll make a product entirely around this one character. Everyone is sure to buy it!”

This is a post about some new movie…why are you referencing that God awful gollum game they released a while back?

I am forever mystified by the internets inability to link simple concepts together.

I’m guessing they took Gandalf’s line “I looked everywhere for the creature Gollum, but the enemy found him first” and are extrapolating that into a 3-hour movie.

Producer: “Gareth Edwards made an amazing original sci-fi film for £79m, everyone complains about Hollywood being nothing but sequels, prequels, reboots and remakes. What have you got for me?

Screenwriter: “Let’s make another Lord of the Rings”

    Producer: “You’re a genius!”

    Me: *headdesk

I could dig some more middle earth.

But a prequel about a character I know the ending of? How do they not understand that kneecaps a lot of the tension and desire to watch?

Show me numenorians or the beginning of the world. Not a bit in between two other movies…

The amount of Gollum we got in Fellowship of the Ring and An Unexpected Journey was the right amount. The amount we got in The Two Towers and Return of the King was a bit much.

Hopefully the new movie is more Hunt and less Gollum.
