nobody knows, we’re barely started. .ml is the “official” one run by the devs. .world is run by a pro admin, has financial transparency, and currently makes more in donations than what it costs to run (about 500$/mo). Some criticism of .world is that it has open registrations, which could mean more spam, and thus more chance of being defederated

There’s nothing wrong with signing up for a smaller or private instance. A small instance is likely to federate well and have small scale politics, good server uptime. You could pick one that’s close to your physical location for good latency

Lemmy.world is run by the host of mastodon.world. They moderate well, run multiple services, and are clear and transparent.

Lemmy.ml has the issue with the admins being sorta tankies and deem anything against the Chinese government as “sinophobic”

lemmy.world is chiller but lemmy.ml is more permanent

go to a smaller instance if you want laid back mods and to not defederate with certain servers
