Are people who bought Teslas, some probably for laudable climate ends, now disgusted to drive their car every day? Or are people still buying them and it’s not yet hit home where their dollars are going…or other? Are people selling them due to political reasons now?

There is no ethical consumption under capitalism; owning a Tesla isn’t any worse morally than owning a Mercedes

I don’t own one because they’re fucken lame, not because Elong is a knob. Or not primarily at least

People’s perceptions of Tesla owners are so loaded. They are all assumed to be rich left wing virtue signalers who think they are better than you.

If we take that manufactured stereotype and stand it up against Elon Musk’s recent behavior, it suddenly appears in conflict. And oh we love the schadenfreude of that! Haha, you superior assholes! Not so smart now, are you? ARE YOU??

But the real question here might be: what will all of us do with our schadenfreude when we figure out that these stereotypes were made up in the first place, that these are just people who bought what they considered to be a cool car, people who would otherwise probably have bought high end SUVs that cost just as much, and who are still getting all the same EV benefits now that they got when they bought the car. What will we do with our pointing and laughing then??

Well, anecdotal experience to be sure but I live in Tesla country where every other car on the block is one. I know many people who drive them and I know what their second car is. And it’s kind of hard not to know what people think about Tesla owners, since they are so eager to share it with the world at every opportunity.

musks political beliefs do not effect teslas and its more environmentally sound to keep one if you had one from awhile back. now there are a lot more options purchasing nowadays though.

His political beliefs 100% show in tesla and their work culture. He would buy slaves if he could, but instead abuses his employees. The company should never be supported for many reasons.

People whose brains aren’t mushed by politics don’t give a shit. Not everything needs to be political.

Just because not everything needs to be political doesn’t mean things that are inherently political stop being politically consequential when you say it doesn’t have to be.

Elon in particular has used his wealth to overtly become a political figure. His political power comes from his wealth. Therefore supporting his wealth through your economic choices inherently supports his political activity.

Yah, when your brain is mush with political stuff, this is logical. Except it isn’t - people buy cars to drive them, they look at the price, design, color, performance, prestige. Nobody sane would get rid of a car, lose on the sale a lot, to have to buy another car, because the CEO of a company that makes your car is a weirdo. Otherwise why are you buying any car - every manufacturer has a shitton of bad things on their conscience. You don’t sell a Toyota, but a Tesla somehow makes it make sense?

“fsck” is a pun, it is a linux command (check filesystem for errors), so if I was asked what I mean, I would say, I recommend this … guy to check himself, more exactly: His priorities.

I just don’t really give a shit. I like the car and it works well for me and provides a lot of comfort. I’m sure the ceos of all the other car companies are equally as shitty as Elon but quiet so does it really even matter? Don’t kid yourself that you’re saving the world for buying a Volvo or Toyota instead of a Tesla.

I see bumperstickers that say (paraphrasing), “I bought it before I knew Elon was an idiot.” Well, I’ve seen two: one online, one in real life. But my partner has also seen at least one in real life. So either the same car twice or two different cars.

Set aside the politics. The cars are trash. Horribly made. People are idiots for buying them.

Every Uber around me is a Tesla. I feel fucking unsafe in those things. It also seems like every Tesla driver is an asshole who doesn’t understand the meaning of “safe dropoff locations”. I always deduct a star from Teslas, and it’s almost always deserved.

Americans have set the bar for vehicle quality so low for so long that they likely don’t realize they’re driving a lemon.

I’ve been pretty happy with my Model 3 until he went full fash. Now all the joy has been sucked out of it. Right now, I can’t really afford to get a new car but I definitely won’t be buying another Tesla.

Got a ride in one coming back from a school event. The Mom driving it was so apologetic about having one. Musk is burning down a lot of goodwill with his customers.

I’ve said this in other similar threads, don’t add to your debt by unloading a depreciating asset, just to buy a similar depreciating asset. All ceo’s are likely trash people. Just look up ex Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn(sp?) for a recent example.

Elon might be top tier shitbag, but all ceo’s of car companies are right wing Nazi supporters.
