The administration claimed that blocking arms transfers would embolden Hamas — ignoring Israel’s genocidal slaughter.

But if he does not do this he won’t get re-elected. Don’t you understand? It’s all because he has to appeal to voters. Definitely not the millions of AIPAC dollars he received.

I agree that Biden’s unquestionable support of Israel is a huge problem, but he’s legit not doing it for the donations.

He got so much more than any other US politicians, because Israel used to know that no amount of bribes could ever buy that level of loyalty.

Bibi never got that memo tho, he just knew he could treat Biden like shit and still get everything he wants.

The real reason Biden has this level of support for Israel is even stupider, because Biden is older than Israel.

He’s told the story multiple times over the decades, when he was a toddler and Israel was created, his dad told him to promise to always protect Israel because they were victims.

And it’s fucking insane that over 70 years later that’s what’s been guiding US foreign policy for four years and why we keep arming a genocidal religious ethnostate even though it was a huge contributed to trump regaining office.

But that’s why Biden will always give Israel everything they want, a promise a toddler made to his dad almost a century ago.

Biden has partly credited his pro-Israel world view to his father, who insisted following World War Two and the Nazi Holocaust there was no doubt of the justness of establishing Israel as a Jewish homeland in 1948.

            https://www.reuters.com/world/us/i-am-zionist-how-joe-bidens-lifelong-bond-with-israel-shapes-war-policy-2023-10-21/

            Sorry it took so long.

To find that I had to go thru all the trouble of searching “Biden dad Israel” on Duck Duck go. And then had to even click on the top result.

I can understand why that answer would have evaded someone.

But that’s not exactly what I said is it, and it’s not his own words…

So I went the extra mile for you man, I clicked the second link too

Except the problem with Bidens own words, these days they trail off.

PRESIDENT BIDEN: Well, I hope my father heard that. He’d be — my father was what we call a righteous Christian. He couldn’t understand why we didn’t move more rapidly back in World War II (inaudible). Any rate. I —

PRESIDENT HERZOG: I think that was a great legacy with — of your father.

PRESIDENT BIDEN: Well, it was. And I remember how I got in trouble — we were friends even back then — when I said — years ago, as a senator, I said, “You don’t have to be a Jew to be a Zionist.” I’m a Zionist.

He starts the story there, but literally just trails off

That was only 9 days ago tho…

            Is that recent enough?

            Do you want more?

I’m becoming increasingly convinced that Israel either has blackmail on Biden or that somehow every damn conspiracy theory about them (Israel, not jewish people at large) controlling the US is actually true.

They either have Biden by the short hairs, or some kind of leverage that gives them the US Executive Branch by the short hairs.

The US supports Israel so that Israel can prevent Iran from growing in power and take control of the region.

    What is the argument here?

We cant stop giving weapons of mass destruction to this genocidal terrorist government, because otherwise this much smaller terrorist group may commit slightly bigger but still comparably very small acts of terror?

They try to make a point that its pressure so hamas releases hostages ignoring the fact that this war itself is embolstering support for hamas as freedom fighters against the tyrannical israel. They want the US to give weapons to Israel because it helps their propaganda.

What hostages? Does anyone really think there are any left alive and not either killed by Israeli bombs, starvation or straight up knifed by hamas out of anger/frustration/convenience?

I mean I’m inclined to believe so, given both hamas and Israel claim it’s the case

Hamas are incentivised to not kill them arbitrarily (or put them at risk of being killed in Israeli strikes) because it’s their primary bargaining chip, and Israel are incentivised to avoid targeting them for political reasons

Yeah but you’ll notice the first two methods of hostage death I mentioned would not require Israel to have targeted them, but would be natural outcomes for how they are conducting their military actions.

Sure, but you’ll notice I explicitly referenced that when I said hamas is incentivised to minimise risk of them being hit by Israeli strikes, especially by keeping them separately in members’ homes and in tunnels. The same goes for starvation, in that, if at all possible, hamas actively wants to keep them fed enough to survive, where that isn’t at the cost of starving to death themselves.

You’re right that some/many (maybe even most, I have no data wrt specific numbers) of the hostages have, and will continue to die due to Israel’s actions, but that’s significantly different from your initial claim of “every single hostage is dead”

Yeah dude really not looking forward to the next round of Isis or whatever in 10 years when these kids grow up and get pissed off about not having any family members left. And everyone conveniently forgets that they we’re raised by the IOF and are not just bad hombres or whatever

Really more of internal US politics than World, but the Biden justification of emboldening Hamas is enough to justify it.

    Better suited to Politics though.

It’s about if a major world power will continue funding a genocide on the other side of the globe…

Unless you’re making a joke that Israel is the 51st state, but even then, the people Israel is committing genocide against with US weapons aren’t American.

It’s obviously a larger issue than just America.

No, it’s about Biden arguing against a proposed policy from a United States Senator.

This is all internal US Politics, but Biden’s justification is suficiently global.
