Sellers in the US need to do a truth in Taxation so Americans will know they are paying a tariff and how much, regardless of which party implemented it.

I’m going to make a prediction.

An elected representative will blame post-tariff avocado prices on Mexico and advocate violence.

Edit: I forgot the important part. People will believe it en masse. To your excellent point.

Here me out, increase the prices by 30% so tariffs are covered and 5% for the shareholders.

Does this actually help anyone anywhere? For Americans it will cause price increases and hardship. For Canadians and Mexicans it will cause unemployment and hardship, and there will probably be retaliations that will cause price increases and further hardship. It seems China’s in the best position to come out of this OK, since they already sell stuff all around the world. They’ll take a hit but not as big a hit as the countries in North America.

I guess maybe it helps Russia with the ongoing project of undermining the USA and its allies from within.

Bring it Trump! Go for maximum. When the trade war hits and nothing is affordable blame it all on Biden. We live in a fools paradise.

I do find it disingenuous that people shit all over Trump about the tariffs but don’t point out that Biden placed billions of them on China this year

Both men and their stated reasons are stupid

He didn’t threaten to do it. He said he was going to. Threaten has the implication he might choose not too but he directly said he’d be doing it on his first day in office. That is not a threat. It’s a plan.

“thousands of people are pouring through Mexico and Canada, bringing Crime and Drugs at levels never seen before.”

Ah yes. Those Canadians are known for high crime and lots of drug use.

I think he’s referring to international citizens using the Canadian-US border to illegally enter, rather than Canadians themselves.

I’ve heard (through the news mind you) that there is some number of Indian nationals flying to Canada ostensibly for tourism because it’s easier for them to get a visa for that in Canada and then walking across the border.

As for the drug use, there is definitely a massive problem going on here, the drug overdose mortality rate in British Columbia was 45.7 per 100k, which is about 50% higher than California (but still lower than a dozen “bad” states)

We just don’t have quite as much violence associated with the drug trade, but there’s plenty of addicts and overdoses.

And I vow to pull any chump change in my pension from US funds. And buy a foreign EV. And treat Made in the USA as the badge of a shameful trade partner party.

Just my little start, I hope I’m not alone. Even if our government sucks Trump off to try and play Robin to Blyatman.

GOP almost certainly is already planning their super rich tax cut (again) and Trump wants to do the scam he did last time he was in office having the Secret Service stay in his hotels anytime he visits a place and charge the US govt out the nose. Gotta have money in there somewhere to cover that.

Because those 2 countries have the biggest trade surplus with the US. In his head he sees someone he’s paying a lot of money to as losing. Here in Australia we’re hoping that our huge trade deficit with the USA will shield us from his penny pinching competition

Canadians are just the pale version of Mexicans. What is poutine if not a carb covered in sauce and what is a wet burrito if not a carb covered in sauce. Coincidence? No.
