So many of the nsfw artists really come of as being extremely talented. I just wonder sometimes how people end up doing what they do.

How or why did you end up doing erotic art, especially some of the more extreme genres? Did you start doing it for yourself and found it fun to share? Do you not necessarily enjoy what you draw, but there’s a good audience for it? Where you a fan of something that didn’t have much existing content? Do you do sfw content as a career or hobby or just mostly nsfw stuff?

Not looking to be judgemental at all, I do enjoy a lot of the content, just curious about it like any other job. Thanks!

I don’t do hentai per se, I do 3d renders. Yet, I started out with 3d stuff specifically because it was a way to bring fantasies to live. I do my art for the same reason many people play adult video games: It’s my way of enjoying digital art in an interactive way, interacting with the things my brain can come up with that cannot (and/or should not) ever be done in a real porn setting with actors. It’s fun to express even those sorts of fantasies that would have been rightfully banned to the back of my head otherwise.

I always had a passing interest in 3d art and such, yet it was the NSFW-part that really kept and keeps me going most of the time.

Writing short stories was always a hobby of mine, so I kind of fused the two and started doing comics.

I imagine a lot of artists started out drawing fanart of a tv show they watched growing up like Naruto, Pokemon or the various DC Comics cartoons. They shared this artwork with others on the internet then patreon and similar monetization sites came along and the rest is history.

While many might have come to creating their art in a non-NSFW-context first, you can’t do any sort of erotic content if you’re not into it. It just doesn’t work. I can create any form of SFW content without my heart being behind it, but porn and such will just not be appealing without a tad of your own feelings.

So “that’s where the money was” cannot be the full story.

That makes sense. I guess making content that actually interesting would have to come from a place of personal interest.

When reading a regular fiction novel I hate when they have sex scenes because they always feel so clunky and very not sexy, but an actual erotic fiction writer can do some great work.

Even if you force yourself to create something, you will probably just end up with something uninspired that you know you won’t be proud of and nobody will else enjoy it either.
