I’m really glad to hear it. I didn’t expect much from the show, but I quickly fell in love with it.

I’m definitely excited for this to come back on. Between this and Vox Machina, Prime has been putting out some great animation.

Can I ask, we’re you a fan of Critical Role before watching Vox Machina? I’m a big fan and really liked VM, but I’m curious if it hits similarly for viewers not familiar with the story/characters.

I tried watching CR a few times ages ago, but honestly found it impenetrable. It’s such a massive time commitment that I just never had. So yeah, I don’t have any sentiment for the characters outside VM, but I love it.

It’s definitely a huge time sink, that’s understandable. I’m glad the show managed to grab you, I thought it did a great job conveying the story and tone of the CR campaign/characters in a more focused medium.

I enjoyed Critical Role but was near the end of the Underdark arc when I started watching VM, so I wasn’t that familiar with the story or group that much, and I enjoyed the show a lot.

Fuck yea! Been waiting ages. Season 1 was so good it made me binge read all the comics in less than a week, and I almost never read comics. I got very little sleep and neglected several responsibilities lol.

How? Which writers are on this? I thought they were all striking…

The production cycle for animation is ridiculously long and writing is at the very beginning of it. It’s possible that all the writing was done long before the strike started.

Yep, Robert Kirkman did it all back between 2003 and 2018.

It’s animation. The writing had to have been done right after the first season finished production. Most if not all the work being done now is likely all editing and compositing work.

How long do you think an animated show takes to produce? The strike has only been going for four months.

They are probably going to just do a flip book of the comic at 0.5 fps and some background sounds

Waited so long feels like its been like half a decade. I hope it’s as good as the first season I which I loved.

This is great news. I just learned that there’s an Atom Eve special that came out in July.

I’m only writing this because there don’t seem to be any dissenting opinions here…

With that said, seems like I’m in the minority that thought this show was too cliche, predictable and just boring. Happy for those of you who enjoyed it but it’s a very easy pass for me.

Even though I know there more to it, I just can’t bring myself to watch any of the wave of “what if superman was evil” or “comic character derivatives, but blood and gore” shows and movies that came out.

When Omni-Man finally took turn to explain his motivations there was almost no substance to it. In the end, a lot of it felt like because a few characters were far more powerful than all the others, little else mattered. Robot’s whole arc kinda puttered out without affecting anyone else, too.

When Omni-Man finally took turn to explain his motivations there was almost no substance to it.

That’s surprising to hear, it felt like a fully logical in-universe explanation for the whole thing to me (though I know a bit about the comic background, so maybe that helps).

In the end, a lot of it felt like because a few characters were far more powerful than all the others, little else mattered.

This was directly addressed in multiple ways. Characters didn’t just sit around because others were stronger.

Robot’s whole arc kinda puttered out without affecting anyone else, too.

Robots arc just hit a climax in the last episode. How did it putter out? I’m reasonably sure it will pick up where it left off in the next season.

My main issue I have is that it’s a guy who has a plan…who then executes that plan. And…everything goes according to plan, and he doesn’t have any future plans. That’s not an interesting story, and it doesn’t relate to anything else happening in the universe.

Hm, I guess I can kinda see that.

My main issue I have is that it’s a guy who has a plan…who then executes that plan. And…everything goes according to plan

Not exactly. First off, he didn’t catch the Mauler twins like he expected, since he was interrupted by the emergency call. This means the GDA had to catch them, which might lead to trouble if they find out that Robot broke them out of prison.

Second, he didn’t expect blowback from the team, which he got. It wasn’t focused on much due to the severity of the surrounding situation, but I’m sure this will be addressed in season 2.

and he doesn’t have any future plans.

None that you know of right now, because there wasn’t time to set anything up once his initial plan climaxed. We also don’t know of any plans by the rest of the Guardians, and that’s okay, because the end of the season wasn’t focused on them!

I almost don’t want to get hyped again because we’re going to be waiting for the inevitable season 3 for another 2-3 years, right? But S1 was sooo gooood damn

Yeah, when it comes to animation I am very willing to be patient in exchange for quality. Very few animated shows have been able to pump out quality episodes at an annual pace, and I would rather they not rush it.

I’ve heard that they planned season 2 and 3 in a way that the gap won’t be that long
