U.S. President Donald Trump’s order to build an American version of the Iron Dome to shield the U.S. from aerial attacks will deter China and Russia from coercing the U.S. using nuclear weapons but could drive a three-way arms race, said analysts.
What’s the bet that soon trump will want to revisit the “rods from god” idea. Seems like it is an idea plausible enough to convince him to go ahead, while still being a dumb enough idea to be terrible.
The us will not be able to replicate the efficiency of the iron dome. The us is fucking gigantic and anti ballistic missle systems need to be on site to be effective.
It would cost a fortune to protect most us cities which are also not strategic targets. I assume the strategic targets are already protected by anti ballistic systems.
The us desperately wants to invalidate nukes so they can get a military advantage but it won’t happen. By the time they finish building this system Chinese hypersonic stealth bombers will be flying in at Mach 6 and dropping hyper sonic nukes that dodge anti ballistics.
It was a stupid idea in the 1980s. Reagan called it ‘the Strategic Defense Initiative.’ The rest of the world called it ‘Star Wars.’
