I’m surprised The Terminal didn’t get anything. Maybe a busy year? I thought it was great.

One of my favorites! I think people of the time had a hard time disconnecting Tom Hanks the celebrity from the role he is portraying. I’ve put together a black and white version of this movie for myself, which helps me focus on the wonderful framing and cinematography. It’s underrated IMO!

I read just the tagline on IMDB, is Duel parodied by Simpsons in the “Lousy Smarch Weather” episode where Bart is chased by a crazy Willie tractor in his dreams?

Lincoln was a great biopic. Hyperfocusing on one pivotal moment in the man’s illustrious life, and using the complexity of those circumstances to explore his intelligence and charisma from all angles was so much more effective than the whole-life-in-fast-forward approach so many other biopics follow.

Plus Daniel Day Lewis in peak form. Just an indescribably good performance.

Just a reminder of what bullshit the modern Oscars are. The man makes a wonderful version of The Color Purple, and doesn’t win a single Oscar for it.

Meh I’d say 1984 was his last good year.

How do you explain your opinion? Last movie I liked was temple of doom “Kali Kali Kali” pulling a guys heart out. Fortune and Glory kid. Or adventures in babysitting with dinosaurs Jurassic Park?

I guess I was hoping you would have an argument to make about Spielberg’s filmography, since “he hasn’t done anything good since Temple of Doom” is a nutty statement to me. I don’t see how you could hold that opinion, and I was asking for you to explain what it was about his post-1984 output that rubbed you the wrong way, in the hopes of possibly unlocking another angle by which to evaluate these movies.

However, based upon your statement that you’re unsure of how to explain your opinion, I’m thinking I was barking up the wrong tree for that sort of discussion. If you don’t engage with film criticism in that way, we’ll just be talking past one another, I fear.

The movies were boring, not interesting and unoriginal?

it gets a lot of shit, but i kinda like it. it perfectly fits the origin genre of pulpy action hero that indiana jones is made from. i like the newest one for the same reason.
