Vision was also a robot with human-type consciousness and intelligence. We can, at least, nudge that into “funny-looking human” through suspension of disbelief.
Our level of robots is nowhere near that.
Exactly. The comic strip questionable content contains artificial intelligences with quirks, foibles, personalities, and a social understanding that they’re people too. In it people and ais have relationships and even marry. It’s no weirder than a human in a fantasy setting falling for an elf.
In the real world these are fancy chatbots owned run by corporations. Anyways here’s a video about people falling in love with them, it’s more sad than anything
It would be clearer if you capitalized Questionable Content. I read it a few times before I understood what you meant.
Naaaahhhh, I was a daily reader of Questionable Content like a decade ago (got married had a kid & forgot about QC), and I don’t at all agree that marrying a sentient robot in QC is like marrying an elf in a fantasy setting. Elves are people, just not human people, in those settings; both are organic & come with that dirty nasty that is reproduction. I fully recognize we can fall in love for personality or mind (which a sufficiently advanced AI could host), but biological love is different.
