From translate so idk how accurate it is but it sounds about right.

Vince Coglianese then asks whether Donald Trump thinks Greenlanders are “eager” to become American citizens. The president replies:

“I don’t know. I don’t think they’re ‘uneager,’ but I think we have to do it, and we have to convince them, and we have to have that land, because it’s not really possible to properly defend a large part of this world without it. So we need to have it, and I think we’ll get it.”

We’ve been “defending” a large part of the world for 70 years without owning Greenland.

    Also, JDV:

It’s an island that—from a defensive perspective, and even an offensive one—is something we need, especially with the world as it is.

What the fuck? Literally agitating for war, claiming we need to grab Greenland so we can potentially attack someone else?

Yes, but I think Trump doesn’t understand the very concept of voluntary agreement. He only feels right when he has power over a thing and they don’t have a choice about it.

He’ll occasionally accept something given to him without strings, but only by casting that person as a “sucker” (his voters for example). Everything is adversarial and zero-sum to him.

For those wondering, some US government representatives tried to find some citizens of Greenland to host them for a propaganda show, and were politely but unanimously told to fuck all the way off.

I still want to know why US presence is still even welcomed on Danish soil. The US is now a country that has repeatedly stated its intentions to annex Greenland, by force if necessary, using rationale similar to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Why were these people even allowed to land the plane? Their whole point of visiting was to literally go to Danish citizens and create a propaganda video in order to rationalize the forced annexation of Greenland. This is literally the exact same shit Russia has been doing with regards to Ukraine. Only difference is that Zelenskyy wasn’t letting Russia park their tanks in Kyiv and start filming pro-Russia propaganda in the Donbas during the lead-up.

Why the fuck hasn’t every US ambassador been kicked out of Denmark? Why hasn’t Denmark demanded the US close its base? Why hasn’t Denmark told this visiting envoy that the envoy will not be welcomed? Seriously, this is a country threatening to invade you. It’s like responding to someone threatening to steal your house by letting him crash in your spare bedroom while he plans the robbery.

Can’t Greenland just close its borders to anyone from our government visiting? Why were they even allowed to land? Unless they’re showing up with the military.

The US has a treaty allowing people to travel to the US bases there, there’s some language about not being an ass while travelling through but it’d be a pain to invoke for the crime of knocking on people’s doors.

I mean, what are they going to do when the plane approaches the runway without permission, shoot down the vice president of the United States? They didn’t really have much of a choice. I doubt the Americans would have turned around once refused.

        Shoot? No.

        Tell them no? Yes.

This admin changed the rules, broke alliances, and is reforming us into a dictator/authoritarian government. This means the rest of the world owes them nothing. It’s not like the US wouldn’t detain a Greenlander at the border, they’ve locked up business owning Canadians with valid work VISAs.

There’s no obligation here. Turn them away verbally and let the world know if they bully in anyway. It changes the game.
