F1 tyre supplier Pirelli has accepted the call to action after a thoroughly underwhelming Japanese Grand Prix.

The lack of tire wear is only part of the problem IMO, as with these cars it has become harder to follow a rival in its dirty air.

I find tyre strategy to have the potential to be pretty interesting to be honest and don’t mind races being won by the pitwall. It’s just hard to get it to that window, especially with how sophisticated and smart teams are today. There used to be much more uncertainty and more guessing involved, these days it’s so rare that teams end up at different conclusions. If the one-stop is faster, pretty much every team knows it.

Don’t forget that Suzuka was resurfaced. That reduced tire degradation as well. IIRC, last year we had ~48 overtakes compared to 19 this year.

As the years move forward F1 keeps getting less and less competitive.

It’s like they are trying to ruin the sport.

    Enshitification continues.

I don’t understand your take: F1 is now closer together (from P1 to P20) as it has never been before. Yes you still see the similar guys at front, however every mistake is costly.

I think one of the reason of the bore fest of the last 2 races, was (besides the tyre stuff) how similar the cars have become and how hard it is to make a difference when you want to overtake someone.

Actually this season is gearing up to be quite competitive. 2024 was also more competitive than 2023.
