I actually got in trouble at work once because the manager believed I was being nice to people to trick them into liking me by making them think I was a good person when, according to him, I actually wasn’t. I had to sit there in a meeting and explain to him that being nice to people you like and with whom you want a good relationship is normal human social interaction.
