Thousands are signing a petition to try to help a teacher get her job back at Satellite High School. Brevard Public Schools said it isn’t renewing Melissa Calhoun’s contract for next year because she called a student by the name they wanted to be called by, not their legal name.

    OMFG, they need written permission to call a student by thier preferred name? I swear the whiplash between education best practices and what you see in practice always makes me sick. Restricting someone expressing themslef isn’t just about gender identity but identity on general.

    A friend of mine had negsitve relationship with his dad, eho he was named after, he didn’t like his name, and simply went by “Junior”. This wasn’t about his gender identity but his identity in general.
