This happens a lot. So far, I’ve tried:
- Wrapping the head with paper tape, then dipping the whole thing in Plastidip.
- Sugru silicone putty.
- Heat-shrink tubing.
All failed a few months later, so it has to be applied every once in a while.
Anyone have better ideas?
Wrap a short section of stiff spring around it when it’s new. Should help prevent sharp bends at the plug head.
Like this but better
96% of all such frayed charging cables are Apple. It’s stunningly bad that a company of that size is unable to deliver good cables. Or worse, unwilling to do so.
And all those customers will buy an apple cable again
At 600% markup
You could likely use the spring from a pen for it
Thanks! Guessing that’s heat-shrink tubing on top, to prevent sliding. Will try it with a new cable.
Electrical tape. Stretch it real tight then hit it with a hair dryer and it’ll shrink a bit
Worth a try, imo spiral silicon guards are sturdier. Lasts for years before the rubber inside gives in.
Apply the same material that is on the inside wires to the outside.
Please wrap something around to limit flexing of the exposed wires or they will be gone soon.
What should i wrap it with?
Ideally heat shrink, which would also look good. But I do not know the size of the cable at the other end, so if USB-A is the obstruction it would have to fit over, it might not shrink enough. Then you can use self vulcanizing tape. Last option would be something like normal tape, but it looks shit and gets sticky at some point.
Leg 🥵
my phone’s screen ratio is weird so…
Didn’t mean it like that. My homie sends me photos of his hairy legs often, my natural reaction to seeing legs at this point is “🥵”
You do realize the sensor is most likely 4:3? You are specifically using less of it due to your camera app’s settings.
