I’m all for Greta Thunberg, she’s doing more with nothing than most politicians who have everything.

These authorities don’t know how to stop a protest. If they just stop arresting her and giving her a headline, we’d never know about what she is doing.

Every time they arrest her, she gains the publicity she needs.

We should all be ashamed, … I am whenever I’m reminded of her work … a young woman is fighting against a monolith because she knows what’s going to happen to billions of people in the future … while we all sit quietly hoping all these problems just go away on their own.

It’s been really interesting watching Greta grow up - like in the teenager to adult sense. When she was younger you could see that kind of passionate idealism that you have when you’re young (I don’t think it’s a bad thing, the way society crushes this in young people is the bad thing). But now she just has this very profound smirk on her face everytime she’s arrested. It’s not a happy smirk but more of a ‘yep this shit again’ smirk. I think it’s a testament to her authenticity and commitment to calling out bullshit. As an autistic person Greta is also an amazing inspiration to me because sometimes people who can tell it like it is are an absolute asset to our society.

It’s important to remember not to compare your situation to that of public figures. Greta Thunberg is wealthy and she’s not have to work to survive. She is using that to fight for a cause that is admirable and we should applaud her for that. But don’t beat yourself up for prioritizing short term survival needs. Some people genuinely can’t do more than go vote once a year.

This system is stacked against the little guy in more ways than one. Including ensuring that we don’t have enough time to raise a stink. While I have the income to suggest I could spend time doing stuff like this, I also recognize how quickly all of my assets would disappear if I took a couple of months.

Sometimes the evil really is as simplistic as a childrens movie

I have tremendous respect for Thunberg, but I’m worried about her future. After becoming internationally famous, she’ll have a hard time growing up to be a well-adjusted adult.

That’s a good point. She’s not some child actor reading from a script.

From her perspective her future is already fucked up thanks to all the adults in the room, so she probably doesn’t care.

Able to handle being in the spotlight constantly. Being happy with her life. Not feeling like she needs to live up to other people’s standards. That sort of thing.

Edit: oh, and I hope nobody takes advantage of her, either.

How is she allowed in countries where she needs to answer questions along the following lines in the arrival card: have you ever been arrested, etc.?

They’re mostly looking for “have you committed w violent crime” and not “did you sit down in front of an oil refinery”
