Judge rules it’s fine for car makers to intercept your text messages::A judge has refused to bring back a class action lawsuit against four car manufacturers because the privacy violation did not meet the WPA standard.

EU Parliament Decides That Your Private Messages Must Not Be Scanned
I don’t like this but it seems like it is an accurate application of law (IANAL), right?
The right place to fix this is in the company’s policies and in the laws in the first place.
Of course, making those company policies more clear and available is important too. Even by TOS standards, I can’t imagine many people have read it for their car.
Agreed. The letter of the law vs the spirt of the law. So legal but not right
People shouldn’t have to not use or rip out their infotainment systems to have privacy. The automakers know that people are just going to take the path of least resistance and know that people aren’t going to read the fine print
I know for Android you can turn off text messages access for individual Bluetooth devices. That does provide a way to use it with the only lost feature being receiving and replying to text messages while you’re driving.
How stringent is the WPA standard anyway? The texts have to be stolen at gunpoint for the express purpose of jerking off to stolen dicktures?
Can we just buy this asshole’s data and do something funny with it ourselves?
Judge r00ty has ruled that it’s fine for you to do this.

You do NOT need to STORE any of this information in order to use your phone hands free. AT ALL.
It should be able to access them from your phone instead of the cell service.
Using the word ‘intercepts’ makes it sound like they’re doing the latter, although that may not be the case.

Judges who take any kind of compensation from large corporations should be stripped of their skin and left to publicly bleed out on display for the world, a constant supply of lemon juice and vinegar showering them.
Your texts are not the property of the auto makers. Guess auto companies don’t want you to go hands free. Could open all kinds of extra law suits. Save a dollar and lose a thousand.
