From what I’ve seen from the other users on blahaj, it’s not pretty split from the users on our instance. It’s supported. So defederating isn’t “drama”, it’s the intentional design of Lemmy

      the intentional design of Lemmy

Yeah, if you disagree with an instance’s decisions, defederations, and so on… Choose another instance 🤷

Yeah I like the concept of chronicling all these happenings but declaring them to be dramatic circumstances is not only trying to be divisive for it’s own sake, it’s also just a bald-faced lie in most cases.

We shouldn’t emulate reddit’s toxic bullshit like SRD. Defederating happens, and it’s not a big deal. Pretending like it is actively makes the platform worse.

I’m not really down with this being presented as drama, it’s unfortunate the way it played out but overall its their choice to defederate. We actively encourage other instances who forbid pornography to defederate from us. Lemmy.ml, sopuli, etc etc we are totally fine with, we have no malice or hate towards them because thats their choice and their reasons and concerns for doing so are more than legitimate especially with how limited lemmy is right now and the locations that they host their site at. We have open discussions with other instance admins and welcome discussions of their potential concerns, it’s just we didn’t really know what the concerns were beyond “this looks wrong because it looks wrong delete it” which made it extremely frustrating to try to figure out concisely what the problem was so we could address it.

My only issue is it being presented as if we are fine with CSAM, when we aren’t and to be accused of that is extremely serious.

The removed comment is made by a user from another instance. You seem to be very intent on creating the narrative that the users on that particular instance are split (and you are being very arrogant about it as shown in one of your other crossposts), when so far you have posted no evidence of that being true whatsoever.

And again, as others have commented, this is how federation works, if people disagree too much with the admins decisions they can freely move to another instance where those decisions no longer affect them.

I might join blahaj lemmy at some point then. The LemmyNSFW instance takes up an annoying amount of my All page, even though I’ve blocked many communities.

I was hoping for some non-porn NSFW stuff on that instance, like military combat footage, OSHA failures with terrible results, scenes of homicides and violent crime, strange nature photos (but stuff other than animal sex). It’s not that I like gore in particular but I thought lemmynsfw would be a spot that could host that sort of content, which isn’t appropriate to host on most other instances. But nope, it’s pretty much all porn that’s on there.

Apparently Kbin has options to block entire instances on the user side of things. Surprised that’s not more common across the Lemmy instances.

Lol what does any of that wall of text have to do with “diversity.”

There’s not much drama here tbh; “admin defederates a somewhat controversial instance and some people agree and some people don’t” is, as other commenters have said, very business as usual for the fediverse.

I do think it’s natural in lemmy for people on other instances to have takes about defed calls because they may use communities on one of those two servers, or both, and be impacted as defederation splits the user bases. But it feels like most of the “drama” here is just free speech maximalist/libertarian trolling.
