Not ready yet, but almost there!
Sync is good but Boost is better
Boost is essentially the Apollo equivalent of Android. A simple but functional UI. Customisable UI but not ambitious. Well thought out.

You troll Lemmy app posts? That’s your life?
Neato.
Objectively subjective
Be objective then…
We’re all anxious to get back on Boost and launch the rocket 🚀 so I hope you take it as support and not pressure. Having a blast with Voyager for now, but Boost was always where it was at for me. Can’t wait to give it a shot when you’re ready to release it!
Do you know what kind of pricing model you’ll use? Will Boost for Lemmy be a separate purchase for removing ads, or do you intend to have a restore purchases button?
No pressure but I can’t wait to be back on Boost!
Thanks for the update!
Thank you for the years on Reddit! Can’t wait to have boost for lemmy!
I can’t wait!
I’m eager to try but more than happy to wait.
Super appreciative to have Sync for Lemmy to use in the meantime, but it’s only increased my appetite for the real deal - Boost for life!
Hurry up and take my money 💵
Yay! Thank you for all of your hard work on boost! I’m super excited to use boost with lemmy!
almost there!
Wow! Good to hear. Can’t wait to be back on Boost.
Take your time and thanks for the effort :D
Nice to hear.
Thanks. I donated a few bux earlier in the year, before Reddit started the API thing. When Boost for Lemmy becomes a reality I’m gonna donate a few more bux to show appreciation.
Thanks for the update! Take your time, as great work always needs sufficient time to be prepared! Thank you for undertaking this transition, and I’m eagerly awaiting the release!
When it’s ready i guess.
Looking forward to returning to Boost. I’ve been experimenting with Sync, but the high prices (even though I don’t intend to use the features that are locked behind them) and the fanboys are pushing me away.
I deleted sync, even though I was using sync before. For now, Summit is better for me. Free and fluid. No ads. In fact, $20 is not a lot of money if you live in a developed country. Unfortunately, it’s a lot of money for my country.
LJ added region specific pricing a day or so ago, check for app updates, or add your country to the list: https://lemmy.world/comment/2020246
Great work to hear!
IIRC Boost was ad free without paying for it, which is what matters to my broke but ad hating ass.
That’s what I love about boost. You barely notice the ads. But I bought it anyway out of respect for the dev.
It had a bottom banner. Dunno if you could turn it off for free?
No, you couldn’t. However, it was offered for cheap in discounts.
Forget Boost; Relay when?
Welcome to the boost community. You appear to be lost.
I don’t think Relay will be coming, the dev is making Relay paid for Reddit and is complying with the API pricing.
Sync is better, just adapt
Sync is good too, then just stay on it lol. Why are you even on the Boost community then?
Sync has incredibly vocal fanclub that brigades regularly. Did it on reddit, doing it here.
Yes, but that’s your opinion. If I say Boost is better, will you adapt?
Huh, I mean you can say whatever lol. I’m waiting to swap to Boost though, that was my go to with Reddit.
Bro, why do you have emojis in your username?
There’s next to no restrictions on names in Lemmy. Go wild! 🐢
Haha, I wish I knew when I created mine.
It’s different from your account name. You can change it at any time in your settings.
K
Matter of opinion. You’re literally in a community for the app you say is inferior. Why?
It’s on /all
tl;dr: That’s a nice argument, why don’t you back it up with a source?
I’m trying Sync as a holdover while I’m waiting for Boost, and I’ve found some things that annoy me a bit. I’ve purposefully left out any minor bugs that seem like regressions from changing the codebase to work with Lemmy, so the only things I’ll critique are purposeful design choices.

There is seemingly no easy way to synchronise settings over accounts. This makes initial setup with multiple accounts frustrating, and future changes a little annoying.
-
By default, the floating action button and the 3-dot menu at the top right open the same menu. Why are there 2 different buttons on the same screen that do the same thing?
-
Changing the default text size (which is too small imo) is not easy, as you have to go and change at least 4 or 5 different font size settings for post titles, selftext, comments, comment details, etc. And even then, when I’m typing this right now, it’s too small and I can’t find any configuration option to change it Why is there is no global font size?
-
There are a few small things that just don’t make sense. For example: if you completely collapse a parent comment you’re still able to tap it to have the upvote/share controls despite being unable to read it. In contrast, Boost smartly opens the comment when this happens.
There are a few other small things that mildly irk me, but other than these things my Sync experience so far (1 day as of writing) has been somewhat positive.
Claiming that it’s superior without any reasoning isn’t very productive. If you want to show your support for something, surely you can think of at least one reason that it’s better, right?
For me it’s the bizarre inability to set a subreddit’s default view mode to be swipe. That extra button tap every time I’m on a picture heavy sub is a real chore. Boost can do it so why not Sync? 🤷
Changing the default text size
Idk how to link the setting (which is possible), but back on sync for reddit I got annoyed with this too.
After changing the font sizes for posts and comments like you did, I realized there is a setting under “General” that allows you to change the base font size. Doing so affects all of the font sizes without having to configure each individual section.
That said, it is very easy to scroll past or overlook that setting.
There is seemingly no easy way to synchronise settings over accounts. This makes initial setup with multiple accounts frustrating, and future changes a little annoying.
Set up account -> Backup -> Switch to new account -> Restore
That doesn’t scream “easy” to me. It feels like a workaround.
It would be better to have something like a “global settings” page to specify personal preferences and then maybe “account settings” that override the global settings.
That doesn’t scream “easy” to me.
I can’t tell if you’re taking the piss or you genuinely think 10 seconds of effort is “hard”.
I never said it was hard. It’s inconvenient, which is an indicator of poor UX.
