I just want a couple videos off the device, everything else is either backed up or recoverable. The device currently can:

  • Stay locked after a reboot

  • Unlock for about 30-45 seconds before restarting and displaying the recovery screen I attached.

  • Boot into recovery/rescue mode (kinda, it shows the android mascot with a red warning icon and the text “no command”, but I can’t seem to mount it in windows or Linux

Is there any chance at all that I could get files off the device?

I’m not 100% certain, but I think Android encrypts your files by default if you have a screen lock set up. So if you turn the screen lock off, you should be able to get a readable filesystem off it from recovery.

The android thingy with “no command” is normal. Have you checked if it shows up in adb with adb devices?

Tried this for myself real quick, I can’t get adb to open a shell due to SELinux, and adb ls /sdcard results in an empty directory, so looks like it is still protected.

I think you might need someone with some more expertise on this to help you, sorry

Working with the limited info I have: google photos was reporting the phone was overheating just before it crashed, it was failing to upload some videos I had just recorded. Best guess, it was a perfect storm of failed actions, overheating, and possibly filling up the storage so much that the swap was basically gone, thus loading stuff on reboot after unlocking created a fatal error loop. I have no way of knowing now, but at least the phone works again! ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Man, I remember waking up one day to find the P3 just wasn’t on. It had charged overnight on the factory charger, and just nothing.

Was super pissed off about that (still am) because I had babied that phone up until that point.

So far, heat with my P6P has been a problem , so I am not sure Google has their manufacturing processes down yet for their line of phones.
