You know its bad when the Reddit icon for Moderator makes it look like a soldier going to Vietnam.

From what I’ve been told, out of the three active subs I modded that got yanked and restaffed with whoever, only one isn’t a bot ridden mess.
And that one is kinda shit (again, that’s second hand) now.
Not that I was some paragon of modding, it’s just that you can’t have random assholes put in place after actual users are pissed off and expect things to work out well.
I noticed reddit changed since the strike but I didn’t know how, it felt faker now I think this may be why
Faker and so dumbed down. Lowest common denominators.

Neat explanation. Thanks. I also modded some communities over there.
It’s not only reddit i‘m seeing this happen on. At work, on discord, people with questionable morals start to get into power and take over from those who built stuff up.
It’s like we have an epidemic of the dark triad. Being manipulative, impulsive and brutal seems to get more and more normalized through our economic system.

Yes, I agree on most points, especially comparing the different populists/fascists.
But radio was new, as is the internet and now we have a word for this behavior. Psychology shows us why people like musk rise to power.
Instead of taking away voting rights from people we deem „too stupid“, we should hospitalize people without a moral compass like we should do with serial killers to be instead of sending them to the electric chair afterward (or prison for life in europe)
If someone shows parts of the dark triad, they should be barred from any office that has any power over any other human being.
Are they great strategists? Yes! Are they unable and/or unwilling to empathise with their victims? Also yes.
Give them strategy work but dont let them take care of people. Its not that hard.

Reddit gives its mods the same kind of respect drug dealers give junkies
Hey, that’s not fair to drug dealers. I’ve heard many kind stories about dealers helping people. If something happens to their customers then they can’t buy anymore. If something happens to Reddit mods, they just replace them.
Ive known some people of a very criminal inclination and most of them were actually really good people if you didnt equate laws and morality.
Spez has always been lacking in moral fiber
I think he is made of fiber
We should desiccate him to recycle his fibers
Let it go man…. She’s gone.
Trauma. Takes a while to get over.
Just piggybacking for a PSA: what it actually requires is emotional processing
No thanks, that sounds like work.
How many GPUs should I stick on this “emotional processing”? Does Nvidia make a customized EPU for it yet, and is it worth the buy?
It actually might be. But somehow I suspect it might require getting hardware to actually feel pain, so I’m not sure if it’s a good move
edit: but some sort of automated processing could maybe be a quicker path to trauma recovery, who knows. Worth looking into. Reading neurons’ state, calculating some solution, teaching them that solution, as a shortcut to emotional processing and adaptation. Could be good.
But then again it could be infinitely horrible too. I dunno
I left the day they made the switch and, after 12 years as a daily user, i haven’t logged into my account since. Because of Lemmy, don’t miss it one bit. The only reason I ever see reddit posts is when they happen to show up in any of my DDG searches. Usually, they show up when I’m trying to seach for info flabout a game or mods, at which point my reddit usage is purely utilitarian. I dont login and i no longer use it as any source of entertainment or online social interactions.
Lemmy reminds me of very early Reddit, which is unrecognizable in its current state. After years of stupid decisions, the overwhelming barrage of adds, trackers and corperate greed, the reddit I found so engaging and entertaining was lost years ago. My exit was just an acknowledgement of that truth.

Edit: thanks for the gold kind stranger!
Feel basically the same way you feel except that curiosity has gotten the better of me more than once.
Feels like Lemmy should be seeing more growth?
IMO there’s certainly nothing wrong with going on reddit. There’s still stuff there but it’s just not the same and it’s not for me. They don’t respect their users at all and I’m just not going to give them anymore of my time.
I haven’t been here all that long butI think Lemmy is growing and real growth takes years. It seemed like reddit was this little secret for the first few years, then BOOM! Massive growth and it was a slow decline after that. Lemmy is on the upswing and with any luck, this place won’t fall into the same pitfalls ar reddit.
There was a glitch with my instance this morning — Lemmy.ml. Haven’t used what happened but these enterprises are not a piece of cake to keep going.
I think that sentiment is the same why people ask why there aren’t more Linux user’s. Some people just don’t bother.
At least here in lemmy we won’t found turtle mod for now…
