He said they used AI to fake it. I don’t know if they did or not, but I feel like that’s going to be the new, “someone hacked my phone and posted that,” any time someone gets caught saying something dumb.

I’ve been thinking about that lately. Of course they’ll muddy the waters. Trumps ‘fake news’ bullshit already has, where he acts like major news organizations just wholesale make up stories. The result of deep fakes will be what we already have, but worse, where MAGA types believe anything negative about Democrats, no matter how ridiculous it seems under analysis, and refuse to believe anything negative about Republicans, saying it’s ‘fake’.

Which in turn allows them to now, more strongly forever deny whatever they want.

So on top of not being able to convince them with facts, you also won’t be able to convince them that the facts are facts… so then how do we pull these idiots away from the cliff’s edge?

If they’d just stay at their houses and shut the fuck up, I’d say let them live in whatever false reality they want. Problem is, they’re getting more violent and increasingly believing that they need to enforce their false realities on the rest of us.

The thing is, character matters. I have no doubt Roger Stone is capable of saying those things. Zero doubt.

If someone did this with, say Obama, would anyone believe it?

The thing is AI voices are only good enough to trick most listeners. If you know what to listen for, or can dissect the audio professionally, it’s trivial to fact check.

There has always been image/audio doctoring. Any reputable news source can reasonably identify these things.

Until they train the AI against those artificats and it becomes undistinguishable. It either already exists or will soon, no doubt state actors are excited about the possibilities for foreign intelligence.

I have no problem believing Roger Stone advocated for assassinating two members of Congress, which is also why this is the type of situation where releasing deepfakes would be most effective.

So yeah, it’s absolutely plausible this was AI generated, but Roger Stone isn’t someone I feel deserves the benefit of the doubt.

The worst part of the world today is that is a plausible denial. But, like other forms of evidence, if it’s not proof positive but it is correct, it may be a strong lead to other information, and at best an invitation for witness testimony. (Not to imply that testimony is reliable)

And in this particular case, mediaite is in communication with the person that recorded this. In addition, they indicated that there were several other instances of Roger Stone attempting to get this done. Could he even be charged for this? I would hope so, especially if he actually took some steps to getting it done.

Let’s be real Republicans haven’t faced consequences for what would get Dems guantanemo for a long time now. So it’s all pretty moot.

Dude has a tattoo of Richard Nixon.

he admired Nixon’s resilience and that the tattoo was a daily reminder that “when you get knocked down, when things don’t go your way, when you’re defeated, you got to get up and fight again. It’s simply that.”

Of course he would talk about it, absolutely would do it too.

In this case, it seems he was boldly talking about assassinating Democratic congressman in a public restaurant and someone recorded him.

There’s usually not tapes. But when there are, they’re more likely to be publicly known.

The amount of shit he’s said (in private, at a restaurant like here, etc) that’s as bad or way way worse is probably 1000x more than what’s publicly known. But in this case someone happened to record it, so it got some press.

What I find interesting is that this is not being discussed much more prominently. A good friend of donnie’s was talking - to a cop - about murdering Democrats. And not only are the cop and Stone not in prison, but it seems this story has already come and gone.

Even more interesting: I find no mention of this anywhere on the Denver Post, by the way…an outlet accused by the unhinged of being “liberal” all the time. And yet - they constantly skip over stories that put Republicans in a bad light.

Does the fact they are called the Panama Papers instead of the Panama Documents similarly grind your gears?
