There are many ways to perform the function, many with their own pros and cons, but as someone else mentioned it might have simply been a “started doing it 1 way and was resistant to change”.

In their defense it was supposed to be a spin off show but the studio forced them to play it as if it was another season. It wasn’t bad, not as good as Scrubs but I was entertained.
