I was bitten by a golden retriever when I was 12. It looked friendly so I went to pet it, and it sunk a canine into my arm. I was just unlucky (and slightly stupid) though, and it didn’t rip my face off, so I think I did ok overall.

A German shepherd also tried to bite me when passing it on a narrow path, but it just shredded my jacket pocket.

A Yorkshire terrier also had a go at me once, but didn’t make it through denim jeans.

One warning, if you use a display over HDMI, then you might have a bad time with Radeon on Linux. I use an LG C2 TV as my monitor, and there is a bug in the driver that forces it to a crappy ycbcr mode that ruins text clarity. I did try all manner of workarounds like hacking up the EDID profile, but I gave up and went back to Windows for now.

It’s a very specific issue, but a showstopper if it affects you

  • I’m currently playing through this, and it’s such an awesome remake, probably the best I’ve ever seen. I never managed to get through the original, after playing the second in the series. It was just too janky and old for me at the time.

These guys have managed to make it highly playable without erasing the spirit of the original game. I love the mixed up high poly low Res textures.

I know this title has had a bit of a messy history with kickstarters and delays, but it really feels like a labour of love, and I can see why they wouldn’t want to release it until it was ready.

  • I have had at least a dozen instances where I have done a Google search for a problem, and clicked a Reddit link without thinking, only to get hit with a private message. I do have an unusual number of problems per day (software dev who seems to spend their evenings trying stupid technical stuff), but I guarantee the impact is not seen on Reddit, but in the many users who never get there.
