Agreed. For starters, anything in a “meme” sub shouldn’t be taken too seriously. Comments elsewhere on the Internet aren’t always as clear but I think people get offended over empty words way too fucking often.

Most all of the anti-lgbt from me is focused solely on the “t”. And even then, 99% of it is poking fun. I’m certainly not calling for people to be burned at the stake or anything remotely like that. I’m just sick of sites where I’m not allowed to express the opinion that trans propaganda needs to stay the fuck away from kids and that trans shouldn’t be competing with women in sports and it’s ok to like Harry fucking Potter.

I actually know several gays irl and can hold a civil conversation with them, don’t hate them, etc. That doesn’t mean I’m going to fly a rainbow flag during June or that I want the streaming services I am paying money to to misrepresent how large the lgbt population is by putting them in every tv show or that I want that lgbt stuff in kids shows.

IMO it was inevitable and while ostensibly it was about language/slurs/etc, I think that was just a convenient excuse. I remember years ago before reddit, before twitter, before the political correctness campaign… How people could exist on forums and throw out actual slurs and really racist comments as a joke and people wouldn’t get all butthurt and bent out of shape over it.

Fast forward to present day, and we all know that here’s a lot of folks out there who just can’t stand the idea that people don’t buy into liberal ideals / mainstream media / etc. And they’ve proven time and again on other platforms that you don’t have to be far right or even right at all, you don’t even have to say anything politically incorrect before they start the labeling and calling for bans.

I’m sure most of us here have had run-ins with people who call us bigots, nazis, *phobs, etc merely for having a different opinion. I’ve had discussions on Reddit before where I can’t even have the opinion that a sub not doing rainbows in their banner during pride month doesn’t automatically equate to “we hate lgbt”.

The way lemmy is built, users are perfectly capable of blocking specific insurance / subs / users they can’t agree with on the user level. But that’s not good enough for the far left and they feel the need to take away their users choices and block entire instances at the site level and pressure/threaten other instances to do the same or likewise risk being blocked (not really sure which of these camps lemmy world falls into). But talk about overly sensitive people.

although haven’t been watching as much FiF lately and TaN unfortunately seems to be embracing the lgbt bullshit (IIRC there were two lesbos in last season… wasn’t a strong emphasis on it, but still irritates me that they have them on a family show). Love the show otherwise but if they add any trans, then I’m done with it… although considering their target audience, hopefully they’ll learn from budweiser’s stupidity and not go that far.

I could tolerate the “lgb” (but not “t”) folks as long as they keep 'em away from kiddos and quit trying to plaster them all over everything like they make up 50% of the population instead of the less than 8% that they actually do. Trans stuff tho… bad enough people mutilate themselves like that for attention and then suicide for even more. No need to glorify or even normalize that mental illness to kids

I never even really considered that reddit mods might be able to see my email (I assumed site admins/devs could see it but not mods of a subreddit). I’m tempted to go swap out my registered email for a temp one now, just for the hell of it…

Had thought about deleting my account entirely (not over the api stuff… just sick of the hivemind over on reddit) but wondering now if all the api stuff might drive off some of that obnoxious crowd and bring back some of the folks from a long time ago… especially since spez seems to be praising elon so much lately lol.

I’m guessing for anything detailed that it would be different for each manufacturer, and probably even different for various models or years (bc parts contractors for electronics might change, wiring could be different etc)

generically:

1. Never ever pair your phone’s bluetooth with your car unless you are a techie and know how to isolate shit OR you don’t have anything to track on the connected device (e.g. like maybe a 2nd old phone that you bought secondhand with cash and a fake name and you only use to play untraceable audiobooks/podcasts off)
2. Probably would need to look into your car’s OnStar or whatever GPS system they bundle in these days, then research how to disable that. If you’re lucky maybe you could disable it by finding the corresponding fuse and leaving that one disconnected… but somehow I think it would not be that easy.
3. Not sure what they mean by “biometric” data about you… If it’s fingerprint, you might be able to defeat that with electrical/duct tape or a steering wheel cover but it really depends on if they force you to register to use the car or some shit. Really that kinda goes for other forms of biometric data like voice / retinal too… you’re pretty much at the mercy of how much of an asshole they are about it. e.g. Don’t buy shit that forces you to use it and then you can at least choose not to.

Even then… I doubt there’s a way to kill any tracking data about your driving that gets stored on the car without knowing a good deal about electronics.

But really the best way is like others have said: get an older car (or find one that you can confirm doesn’t do this shit and get that)

Much as I hate that this is the world we live in, it’s not really surprising when you stop and think about it.

If you raise chickens, you need to guard against foxes, wolves, and other carnivores. Considering that very few children these days don’t play video games and that discord (as much as I personally dislike the platform) is one of the biggest places for chatting about games on the web, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that it would be like a fucking candy store for pedos.

Glad to see them finally taking steps to against child predators, but I have to wonder if there’s anything they could have done differently that might have discouraged these kinds of people sick pieces of shit from hanging out on the platform in the first place…
